Brazil Again Postpones First Rio Madeira Power Auction- Estado

Brazil’s Mines and Energy Minister Nelson Hubner announced Wednesday that the auction of the rights to build Madeira’s Santo Antonio power plant will be delayed until November 29th according to Estado new agency. This marks the second delay in the auction of the hydroelectric project’s 1st dam which was originally scheduled for late October.
The Madeira complex which will consist of the Santo Antonio and Jirau plants is projected to be able to produce 3,300 MW and is considered to be crucial for Brazil's energy supply after 2012. The total investment in the projects has been estimated at $10.5 billion. The government is expected to announce the final rules of the auction on Thursday.
